A small piece of wood and leather. You think what?? But there is a lot that can be learned from a slingshot. A few things can be applied straight to our lives from this weapon and the art of using it.When I think about the slingshot, I am reminded of a story in the Bible: David and Goliath. There was a war going on between the Philistines and Israelites. Goliath, a very large man, and the Philistines had defied God. He challenged the Israelites to send one man to fight him. Whoever won, would use the other people as slaves. The Israelites, even though they had God on their side, were scared.
David, a shepherd boy, was tending to his sheep. He protected his sheep when they were in danger at whatever cost. You see he practiced using his slingshot to run off predators. He wrestled lions and bears to the ground, all for one lost lamb. David obeyed his father and went to take some cheese and other random stuff to Saul and the army. While there, he heard Goliath defy God...and he couldn't take it. So he said, "send me, I'll go defeat him."
David tried all of Sauls gear on and felt useless. So they sent for some stones and off he went. He aimed and released the stone and killed Goliath. Then, my favorite part(which most people leave out), David took Goliath's sword and cut his head off!! YES!!
A couple of things from the slingshot and this story:
1) PRACTICE- David practiced with the slingshot, so we must practice out our faith. How do we practice? Pray, read the Bible, serve others, and obey our parents. God's timing is everything. David didn't know that he would use his experience to kill a giant; but when God called him, he was able to go all in.
2) AIM- David saw his target and had it in his sights. We have to see our target, we have to have a plan and purpose. God's plan...love. We have to be burdened for what burdens God. You see not everyone is willing to go all in. Some people are afraid or not confident. But we have to be confident that God is going to do something big through us.
3) RELEASE- David practiced, he aimed, and then he released. If he had not released the stone, he never would have killed Goliath. We have to be willing to go and use our experiences to share Christ with people. We have to get out of our comfort zones.
Practice, Aim, Release. Don't be afraid to GO ALL IN. God will do big things through you. What are you waiting on?
OneLove,
JNix
